Profile of the Month

Kate is the owner of the Staly Mag, a monthly community magazine for Stalybridge, and is very passionate about her product.

She began her career in the catering industry, working hard for little reward for around 10 years. She then decided on a career change and studied accountancy at Salford University, which ultimately gave her the confidence and drive to run her own business. Thus Staly Mag was born in November 2010. The first edition of 2,500 copies contained just 24 pages, but it has grown month on month so that the April 2012 edition contained 64 pages and the print run has been extended to 5,000 copies.  Lots of hard work has finally paid off!!

Kate is a Saddleworth woman born and bred, so despite living in Nottingham, Bracknell and Oldham she has gravitated back to her roots.  In her spare time she loves to walk her dog, Tess, over the Saddleworth Hills and enjoys taking in the beautiful & inspiring surroundings. Some of her best ideas are developed during these walks. Kate has a vision for Stalybridge – “The area needs to become the place to do business. In this way local money will sustain local business and the whole area will prosper and grow.” she says.  So, with help from fellow business people, she is considering setting up a networking group to encourage existing business to share ideas and to help attract others to the area.

She also volunteers at Saddleworth Museum in Uppermill as the museum Educational Officer, welcoming local school parties and making sure they get the most out of their visit.

Recently Kate signed up as a Utility Warehouse distributor. She loves watching the look of surprise when people realise how much money they can save on their utility bills when they switch to Utility Warehouse with her help. Why not check out Kate’s website at www.pigmebill.co.uk, Busy person…..

…You bet! She works to tight deadlines on the publication of the magazine. Her deadlines for adverts and the free “what’s on” listing for community and charity events is the 15th of every month, i.e. 15th May for June. Staly Mag is then delivered through the letter boxes in Stalybridge by the first of every month. It is also available at key locations in the town centre, so look out for it.
